Excluding Kubernetes Nodes from Portworx Backup Licensing
When using Portworx Backup to protect multiple Kubernetes or OpenShift clusters, licensing is based on the number of nodes counted across connected application clusters.
In certain environments, not every worker node needs to be included in backup protection. Portworx Backup provides a mechanism to exclude specific nodes from its license count without removing them from the Kubernetes cluster.
Portworx Backup supports the Kubernetes node label portworx.io/nobackup to exclude nodes from the license count.
Apply the label to a worker node:
oc label node <node-name> portworx.io/nobackup=true
Verify the label:
oc get nodes -l portworx.io/nobackup=true
The node remains part of the OpenShift cluster and can continue running workloads. However, Portworx Backup no longer includes it in its licensing calculation.
Portworx Backup UI will reflect the changes in couple of minutes.
